The HeatSmart Melrose team has been interviewing installers and will be announcing its selection for air-source heat pump, ground-source heat pump, and solar hot water installers within the next week! Cheaper, cleaner alternatives to heating and cooling your home are here!
A group of local volunteers has teamed up with the City of Melrose, the Mass Clean Energy Center and Mass Department of Energy Resources to bring you HeatSmart Melrose, a community-led effort promoting three clean heating and cooling technologies that can help our residents save money, conserve energy and be more comfortable year-round, while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions. These technologies include:
- Air Source Heat Pumps (ductless mini-splits and ducted systems)
- Ground Source Heat Pumps (geothermal heating and cooling)
- Solar Hot Water
Our team is gearing up to begin a competitive installer vetting process and plan to have them chosen in time for the summertime cooling season. We will be selecting installers based on their extensive installation experience, dedication to customer service, and the ability to offer a competitive, discounted price to program participants.

Mass Save, the state's utility energy efficiency program, offers free home energy assessments to residents of Melrose. Not only will you learn more about how your home uses (and loses) energy, but completing this audit is a requirement for a variety of incentives, including the 0% interest Mass Save HEAT Loan, MassCEC's Clean Heating and Cooling rebates, and thousands of dollars in rebates from Mass Save for additional home insulation.
