About
Learn more about HeatSmart Hudson-Stow and the team organizing it.
HeatSmart Hudson-Stow is a community-based, volunteer-led, clean heating and cooling initiative to help residents and businesses improve home comfort, lower their energy bills, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Similar to Stow Solar Challenge], HeatSmart is a grassroots program driven by a group of volunteer Hudson and Stow residents.
Heating and cooling accounts for around 75% of the average Massachusetts home energy bill and 27% of greenhouse gas emissions statewide. HeatSmart Hudson-Stow promotes the adoption of highly efficient air and ground source heat pumps to help reduce these emissions.
HeatSmart Hudson-Stow offers:
- A competitively-selected, highly-qualified installer partnership through Boucher Energy Systems and Bill Wenzel Heating and Air Conditioning
- Transparent and competitive pricing
- A clear, low-hassle process for accessing state or local rebates and financing
- Events where residents can meet the installer, get questions answered, and learn more about HeatSmart Hudson-Stow and clean heating and cooling technologies
- Open houses with homeowners who have already installed heat pumps
HeatSmart will be a win-win for everyone involved:
- Residents and businesses will get access to competitively priced energy-saving air and ground source heat pumps, a technology that enhances comfort year-round, lowers greenhouse gas emissions, and can lower energy costs.
- Our towns will reduce our community greenhouse gas emissions, helping us contribute towards the State’s foal of an 80% reduction in emissions by 2050.
- Electrifying home heating gives you the opportunity to use on-site renewable electricity or take advantage of Hudson Light and Power’s 80% zero-emissions electricity (and one of the lowest electricity rates in Massachusetts) to heat your home and reduce your energy costs.
HeatSmart Hudson-Stow is part of the HeatSmart Mass Program supported by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center and the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources.

About the HeatSmart Team
HeatSmart Hudson-Stow is organized by volunteers from the two communities with support from the Hudson and Stow town governments. Together, the HeatSmart Hudson-Stow team volunteers designed the program to help achieve their shared goals: helping Hudson and Stow residents and businesses save on their energy bills and be more comfortable year-round while also reducing their carbon emissions.
Outreach efforts are led by HeatSmart coaches in each community, who will help guide you through the HeatSmart Hudson-Stow process and give you the information you need to make the best decision for your home or business.
The HeatSmart Hudson-Stow team is supported by several community partners, including:

Hudson Light supports its communities' efforts to reduce their carbon footprint by promoting wiser choices when making household/business purchases, upgrading heating/cooling, and general home/business energy use through our rebates, incentives, and energy audits.
For more information on rebates and incentives, visit hudsonlight.com. To help promote the HeatSmart effort, the Department had doubled its heating/cooling incentive to $1,000 for HeatSmart participants. We encourage HeatSmart participants to take advantage of our free energy audits: call 888-772-4242 or visit ee.ene.org. With over 90% of our electricity generated from greenhouse gas-free sources, Hudson Light has a small carbon footprint. This portfolio includes the output from two local solar fields and our photovoltaic customers. Our electric vehicle charging station in Hudson continues to help reduce local greenhouse gas emissions. We remain dedicated to continuing to provide our communities with reliable, responsible, and economical service. Contact us at: |
